In the interpretation of natural language sentences, Frege's compositional principle only is not enough to generate logical forms because of context-dependent phenomena such as anaphora, quantifier scope, etc. This paper adopts an intermediate form (a quasi logical form) to represent part of the sentence meaning and touches on its further resolution. A complete system, including a dictionary entry system, a rule compiler, an integrated parser-interpreter and quasi logical form resolution algorithms, is presented. The linguistic phenomena cover classifier phrases, associative phrases, relative clauses, appositive clauses and other prenominal modifiers; ba-construction, bei-construction and other preverbal and postverbal modifiers; serial verb constructions and topic-comment structures. The interpretations of these constructions include referential/non-referential distinctions, distributive/collective readings, the scope of noun phrases, intensional/non-inten-sional depiction of modifiers, single/aggregate classification of classifiers, implicit relations in the associative clauses and the post-verbal modifiers, and co-referential relationships among constituents.

Keywords: anaphora resolution, compositional principle, government-binding theory, graph unification, logical form, mandarin chinese, quantifier scope
