Multi-user Decision Support Systems (DSS) on distributed computer networks are expected to proliferate as companies decentralize their computer resources in the wake of the micro-computer revolution. This article proposes a definition for multiple-user Decision Support Systems, and discusses their characteristics. It compares and contrasts the Multi-User DSS and Group DSS. It also argues the use Computer Based Message Systems (CBMS) as a logical transition from single-use DSS to multi-user DSS. It concludes that DSS and .data base technologies equipped with CBMS effectively facilitate the informational, decisional and interpersonal roles of managers.
