Pyramid architecture (PA) has been widely proposed for image processing. A fault tolerance scheme is presented in this paper for a new pyramid architecture. The nodes inside the PA can be used as spare nodes for multiple faults tolerance if suitable subpyramids are sought to fit the corresponding image tasks. The system reliability does depend on the property of the image. According to the simulation results, the system's reliability will be substantially higher than that of a conventional PA after adding fault tolerance.
